Though the number of COVID-19 cases are going down, Gov. J. B. Pritzker is cautioning against complacency and encouraging residents to continue to follow coronavirus safety guidelines such as wearing masks, social distancing, and avoiding large gatherings.

Pritzker, in the midst of the lowest death and cases rate since the peak, said, “We’re getting closer every single day to the end of this pandemic, but we’re not there yet.”

In Illinois, 16 people died yesterday from coronavirus-related illnesses and complications. This adds to the total death toll in Illinois, which is now over 20,000 people.

As for cases, progress is being made. Over 1,500 cases were reported in the past 24 hours, adding to the total of over 1.2 million since the start of the pandemic.

Vaccination efforts in the state are going well, also. The staff at the United Center reported that they were able to fill all 50,000 appointments for vaccination for the week. The supply of vaccines is steady and significant. More and more people are warming up to the vaccine and the freedom that it will allow them. As of now, nearly 1 in 5 people in Illinois has received the vaccine.
