The Illinois Department of Employment Security (IDES) has just released its unemployment report and it highlights which sectors lost more jobs than others.

The COVID-19 pandemic damaged the economy of the whole country last year and though 2021 seems to look more promising, IDES’ unemployment report still shows that there are many businesses struggling to rise.

According to its report, which compared the number of jobs from December 2020 to January 2021, the Total Non-Farm sector lost about 9,700 jobs, based on its preliminary findings.

The Leisure and Hospitality sector lost about 5,100 jobs

In mining, 100 jobs were lost. In Trade, Transportation and Utilities about 2,100 jobs were lost.

About 300 jobs were lost in the Information sector. In the Professional and Business Services sector about 11,500 jobs were lost. In Educational and Health Services about 100 jobs were lost.

About 2,400 jobs were lost in other sectors.
