Author, former Wired contributor and current New York Times technological correspondent Cade Metz went on the air with Dan Proft and Amy Jacobson on Chicago’s Morning Answer to talk about AI, or artificial intelligence.
Metz told Proft and Jacobson that tech companies are making huge improvements to their AI technology. In fact, Metz says that the most highly developed AI tech to come out is the GPT3, which is capable of reading any text and summarizing it for the user just like any human.
Metz says that this technology is groundbreaking because it means that a computer program is capable of thinking just like a person. But he warns that this could also be risky.
Metz says that an AI capable of interpreting any message is also capable of creating its own language. He said, “The bigger implication is that this system can generate its own language.”
He said that this AI can even create a speech that could sound like former President Donald Trump.
Metz mentioned several times that highly developed AI tech such as the GPT-3 has serious implications.
One particular issue that Metz is concerned with is the possibility that the GPT-3 could create and spread false information.
