Chicago Printmakers Collaborative issued the following announcement on Sept. 9

CPC's new show, "Tongue in Cheek: Irreverence In Print" opens on September 18th and will run through November 6th! There will be an opening reception on Saturday, September 18th from 5pm-8pm, and we'd love to see you there!

The exhibition is dedicated to work which revels in irreverence, featuring printed matter which indulges in crass humor, vulgarity, and all things lowbrow. Due to its penchant for mass production, affordability, and wide dissemination, printmaking presents artists an opportunity to engage the masses in a unique way. Historically, this has given printmakers tremendous freedom to depict subject matters outside the stuffy confines of “high art”, employing humor, lewdness, profanity, and shock-value to entice viewers and illustrate issues unpalatable to polite society.

We just can't get enough of this poster, designed by Carl Voss:

Featured artists:
Eric Wilson, Beauvais Lyons, Kyle Peets, Daniel Luedtke, Lya Finston, Emily Harter, Chris Williford, Oli Watt, Morgan Price, Jolynn Reigeluth , Rosabel Rosalind, Breanne Trammell, Tyler Krasowski, Brandon Oswalt, Emilien Maricot, Jack Spector-Bishop, Carl Voss, Ian Ruppenthal

Curated by Jack Spector-Bishop, Carl Voss, and Ian Ruppenthal

Upcoming Classes

There's still room in Etching and Lithography! Both classes start this week, so hop on board for a big adventure that involves drawing on stone or copper!!! Printmaking Basics and Screen printing classes are already FULL (call or email us to be added to the waitlist), but you can still get in on some Relief printing action in October. For those of you who still feel safest learning from the comforts of home, consider the very popular Poetry & Print course, which is ONLINE and super fun! Our online classes are here to stay, because our students in Ireland are still counting on us to save them from a ridiculously long commute! Register and learn more about classes HERE...

VIDEO OF THE WEEK

YOU can learn etching too!! Yes YOU! Check out some etching action by student Danny Torres, who was referred to us by our friend Tony Fitzpatrick (thanks Tony!). Under the tutelage of CPC teacher Duffy O'Connor, Danny inks up his copper plate, wipes it, and then prints the image, which is a work in progress and will change as he works the plate further. The original vid was set to an OutKast tune but since we don't have the copyright on that, you'll just have to imagine it!
