Harold Washington College is proud to serve those who served. The college was recently named a 2022 Military Times “Best for Vets” college for its commitment to military-affiliated student success.
The college ranked 25th among community colleges and 159th overall in a national pool considered for their quality of services and programs available specific to military-affiliated students, whether they are active-duty members of the military, veterans, or families and dependents of servicemembers. Harold Washington College ranked among the top 30 schools in the Midwest region.
According to Military Times, student success metrics like program completion, retention, persistence, and military-affiliated students’ grade point averages were the most important factors in determining school rankings on this year’s list. Also considered were the range of military-specific resources present at each college or university and the level of financial assistance an institution offers. Admissions and registration policies, human resources policies, and other considerations also factor into the scoring rubric. Harold Washington College’s Veterans Services Center provides guidance to military-affiliated students in these areas and connects students with tailored resources to support their educational and career goals.
This isn’t the first time Harold Washington College was recognized for its commitment to servicemembers and veterans. The college was also named one of the gold-level Top Ten Large Community Colleges for Veterans by Military Friendly Schools for the 2022-2023 school year for its leading practices, effective programs, and positive outcomes for military-affiliated students.
