Dozens of people were shot in Chicago over the weekend, prompting Bob Fioretti, the Republican candidate for Cook County Board President, to criticize current Board President Toni Preckwinkle and Cook County State's Attorney Foxx for not speaking out about the city’s violence problem.

“13 killed and 45 wounded in Chicago weekend gun violence,” Fioretti tweeted. “There are no consequences. Vote the political ruling class out on November 8. No leadership. Why are Toni Preckwinkle and her protégé Kim Foxx silent? Both are strong advocates for the SAFE-T-Act.”

ABC Chicago, reporting on the weekend’s violence, said at least 51 people were shot, nine of whom were juveniles. Ten of the victims died.

One person who was killed was 16-year-old three-sport athlete Rishawn Hendricks, who was shot in the North Lawndale neighborhood, ABC reported. Hendricks is one of at least 33 juveniles who have been shot to death in Chicago this year.

"It does make a lot of people depressed and makes a lot of people sad because we do lose a lot of students over the years and is makes a lot of people not want to come to school anymore,” one student at North Lawndale College Prep's Collins Campus said in the report.

A 13-year-old girl was shot during the same incident, which took place around 8:20 pm on Saturday. She was reported by the news station to be in good condition

Chicago has seen 545 murders, 1,642 criminal sexual assaults, 6,794 robberies, 4,771 aggravated batteries, 15,655 thefts, 14,133 motor vehicle thefts, and 2,313 shooting incidents reported so far this year as of Oct. 16, according to the Chicago Police Department

Fioretti represented Chicago's 2nd Ward on the City Council from 2007 to 2015, according to Ballotpedia. He and Preckwinkle face off in the November election for Cook County Board of Commissioners President.
