Chicago Mayoral candidate Willie Wilson is defending some of his campaign tactics after several candidates expressed concerns about possible ethical violations stemming from cash giveaways he held on Jan. 24.

According to ABC7 Chicago, Wilson fully acknowledged the claims against him and defends his actions of monetarily supporting those in need.

"We always done that," Wilson said. "I'd rather lose the election versus see somebody starving to death.

Chicago mayoral candidate Willie Wilson is vehemently defending his campaign's cash giveaways as something they've always been about.

Mayor Lori Lightfoot has been one of Wilson's chief critics, labeling his cash handouts "seriously concerning," while also adding "we all need to protect the integrity of the vote - even the appearance of vote buying must be taken seriously by the Board of Elections."

Despite the criticism, Wilson stands firm on supporting those in need as it does not correlate with buying votes.

In addition to denying all claims that he is attempting to buy votes, Wilson has vowed to continue the practice regardless of all the added scrutiny or added optics, saying assisting those in need is more important than winning an election.
