About the Crime:

This alert gives notice to the citizens of the 012 district. There is a high spike in Kia and Hyundai vehicles being stolen. Offenders break a window to enter vehicle. They then use a screwdriver to pop off the column, then using a USB cable they are able to start the vehicle and drive away.

Incident times and locations:

  • 600 block of North Wood - January 29, 2023 at 10:00pm
  •  700 block of South Ada - January 29, 2023 at 7:00pm
  •  300 block of North Ogden - January 29, 2023 at 4:30pm
  •  500 block of North Marshfield - January 29, 2023 3:00pm
  •  3100 block of West Fulton - January 29, 2023 at 5:00am
  •  0-100 block of North Paulina - January 29, 2023 at 4:35am
  •  1600 block of West Chicago - January 28, 2023 at 6:45pm
  •  1300 block of West Grand - January 28, 2023 at 1:25pm
  •  2200 block of West Superior - January 28, 2023 at 5:45am
  •  2100 block of West 21st - January 28, 2023 at 1:00am
  •  200 block of North Racine - January 28, 2023 at 1:30am
Offender Description(s):

Offenders are carrying a blunt object to break window, a screwdriver and USB cord.

What you can do:

  • Do not leave anything of value in your vehicle.
  •  Install quality video surveillance cameras and alarms.
  •  Leave your porch light on.
  •  Call 911 for suspicious autos and persons.
  •  Pay special attention to suspicious individuals in the area and alert the Police.
  •  Call 911 immediately if you are a victim or witness to a crime and provide a detailed description of the offender(s) including any vehicle description and license plate information.
  •  Establish a relationship with neighbors and fellow business owners.
  •  Use a steering wheel locking device.
