About the Crime:
This alert gives notice to citizens in the 008TH District (Chicago Lawn) of recent vehicular hijacking incidents. In each incident, the offender approaches the victim's on the street and display a black color handgun demanding the Victim's vehicle. The offenders then flees the scene with the victim's vehicle. These incidents have occurred in the general geographical locations listed below:
Incident times and locations:
- 3300 Block of West 83rd Place on January 27, 2023 at 7:00 P.M.
- 8100 Block of South Sacramento on February 01, 2023 at 2:00 P.M.
- 3800 Block of West 84th Place on February 07, 2023 at 9:40 P.M.
- 2600 Block of West 71st Street on February 09, 2023 at 5:35 P.M.
The offenders are described as 2 to 3 African-American males, 13-26 years old, 5'04-6'00", 100-160 pounds
What you can do:
- Always be aware of your surroundings
- Report suspicious activity immediately
- If you are confronted by an assailant remain calm
- Remember any unique physical characteristics (scars, limp, acne, teeth, etc.)
- Never pursue a fleeing assailant, provide the information to the police
- If approached by a witness to the incident, request contact information
- Dial 9-1-1 immediately and remain on scene when possible
