The latest poll in the Chicago Mayor’s race has Chicago Mayor Lori Lightfoot running third and likely out in her re-election effort.
The poll was conducted by M3 Strategies.
“New Chicago Mayoral Poll (with leaners) Paul Vallas: 33% Brandon Johnson: 20% Lori Lightfoot: 18% Chuy Garcia: 13% Should no candidate receive at least 50%, the top two finishers will compete in an April 4th runoff election. By M3 | 416 LV | E: ±4.8%,” Political Election Projections said on Twitter.
Fox 32 described the details of the poll. “When M3 contacted 416 likely Chicago voters this week, it asked whom they supported for mayor. The initial questioning found Vallas at 32%, Johnson at 18%, Mayor Lori Lightfoot at 14%, and Congressman Chuy Garcia at 12%. Fourteen percent were undecided,” Fox 32 wrote.
"This poll shows the Mayor's support slipping despite spending over $3 million last quarter," M3 Strategies previously said according to an earlier report by Chicago City Wire.
Candidates for office include Lightfoot, Vallas, Johnson, U.S. Rep. Jesus “Chuy” Garcia (D-IL), businessman Willie Wilson, 26th District State Rep. Kam Buckner (D-Chicago), Obama-backed 4th Ward Alderman Sophia King, 6th Ward Alderman Roderick Sawyer, and BLM-protestor Ja’Mal Green, according to Axios Chicago.
Political consultant David Axelrod also said he expected a Vallas and Johnson runoff. “She definitely has a very, very steep uphill climb,” Axelrod told the Chicago Sun-Times of Lightfoot’s attempt at a second term.
Meanwhile, Lightfoot's internal party polling conducted by her campaign shows her as the cream of the crop, Politico reported. The survey “is consistent with what we’ve seen with me in the lead,” Lightfoot told reporters according to Politico. “I would love to have Paul Vallas as my runoff challenge. That’s an ideal matchup.”
M3 Strategies "take a data-based approach centered on polling, analytics, and public opinion research to help candidates, organizations, companies, and causes achieve their goals and better serve their customers," according to its website.
