About the Crime:

This alert gives notice of recent robberies / vehicular hijackings of rideshare drivers in the 005th District. The offender instructs the victim (rideshare driver) to drive them to a destination. Upon arriving at their designated location, the offender points a handgun at the victim and demands property such as a cellular phone, money, credit cards, or vehicle and then either flees on foot or flees in victim's vehicle.

  • 13000 Block of S Indiana Ave, on 16 Oct 2022 at 3:30 A.M.
  •  10200 Block of S Yale Ave, on 21 Dec 2022 at 7:45 P.M.
  •  12700 Block of S Sangamon Street, on January 26, 2023, at 12:00 A.M.
  •  900 Block of E 131st Street, on January 26, 2023, at 4:45 A.M.
  •  13200 Block of S St. Lawrence Ave, on January 26, 2023, at 8:23 A.M.
  •  600 Block of E 131st Street, on January 26, 2023, at 3:50 P.M.
  •  13200 Block of S St. Lawrence Ave on January 27, 2023, at 9:05 A.M.
  •  13300 Block of S St. Lawrence Ave on January 31, 2023, at 4:00 P.M.
About the offenders:

African American Male, 17-25 years old

Handgun

None

What you can do:

  •  Always be aware of your surroundings
  •  Immediately report suspicious activity
  •  If you are confronted by an assailant remain calm
  •  Remember any unique physical characteristics (scars, limp, acne, teeth, etc.)
  •  Never pursue a fleeing assailant, provide the information to the police
  •  If approached by a witness to the incident, request their contact information
  •  Immediately dial 9-1-1 and remain on the scene when possible
