CALA-Illinois has issued the following press release:

Chicago, IL - Citizens Against Lawsuit Abuse (CALA) Executive Director Phil Melin issued the following statement supporting the efforts of a coalition of leading business, technology, and healthcare groups, who held a news conference this morning seeking changes to Illinois’ Biometric Information Privacy Act (BIPA) laws following recent troubling State Supreme Court decisions:

“A 102-year-old Midwest restaurant chain, Main Street businesses, high-tech startups, and medical providers across Illinois face the prospect of catastrophic economic destruction because of two recent State Supreme Court decisions interpreting Illinois’ BIPA laws."

“The ramifications of these decisions extend beyond the companies as the costs of these lawsuits will drive up costs of goods, services, and health care for everyone in Illinois and will lead to the destruction of thousands of jobs."

“CALA-IL stands with the coalition of technology, business, and medical care providers in calling for the Illinois General Assembly to revise BIPA as soon as possible."

Melin appeared on WMAY, Springfield this morning to talk with Greg Bishop about the BIPA, Listen Here: https://youtu.be/ZZ4RNqfSNoE

Phil Melin is available to provide background or publicly discuss BIPA, the recent Supreme Court decisions, and recently filed legislation to reform the law.
