CHICAGO — Chicago Police Department (CPD) Interim Superintendent Eric M. Carter today announced two new command staff promotions. Commander Kevin Bruno has been promoted to Deputy Chief of the Bureau of Detectives and Lieutenant Lewis Courts has been promoted to Commander of the 7th (Englewood) District.
"Both Deputy Chief Bruno and Commander Courts have proven to be trusted leaders and law enforcement professionals within the Chicago Police Department," said Interim Superintendent Carter. "I know that they will continue working passionately to strengthen safety in this city on behalf of its people."
Deputy Chief of the Bureau of Detectives – Kevin Bruno
Deputy Chief Kevin Bruno, a 23-year-member of the Department, most recently served as the Commander of the Area 3 Detective Division. Prior to that, he served as the Commander of the Investigative Response Team, where he also served as a Lieutenant. As a Lieutenant, Deputy Chief Bruno worked as a Field and Watch Operations Lieutenant in the 11th (Harrison) District. He served as a Sergeant in the Area North Detective Division, where he led cold case investigations and oversaw homicide investigations. He also served as a Violent Crimes Unit Watch Commander. He was also a Sergeant in the 7th (Englewood) District. He holds a Juris Doctor from Loyola University Chicago and a bachelor’s degree in political science from DePaul University. He also attended the Northwestern University School of Police and Command.
Commander of the 7th (Englewood) District – Lewis Courts
Commander Lewis Courts, a 16-year member of the Department, most recently served as a Lieutenant in the Gang Investigation Division within the Bureau of Counterterrorism overseeing complex gang and drug investigations. Before this, Commander Courts also served the Gang Investigation Division as a Sergeant. In this role, he focused on reducing gang-related violence. He was also a Sergeant in the 4th (South Chicago) District and the 6th (Gresham) District. In these roles, he worked both in the field and administratively. Commander Courts holds a master's degree in public administration from the Illinois Institute of Technology and a bachelor's degree from Southern Illinois University. He also attended the Northwestern University School of Police and Command.
