CHICAGO – On May 2, 2023, Congressman Jesús “Chuy” García (IL-04) held an event to present the record $27 million in Community Project Funding secured for his district for Fiscal Year 2023. The Congressman was joined by community leaders, local elected officials, and government entities receiving project funds. The event was held at the National Museum of Mexican Art. Elected officials in attendance included: Cook County Commissioner Alma Anaya, Northlake Mayor Jeffrey Sherwin, and Berwyn Alderman Scott Lennon.

More information on all 15 projects can be foundhere.

Excerpts from the Congressman’ remarks(English and Spanish)are below:

“It brings me great joy to be in Pilsen - the first neighborhood my family and I lived in when we first arrived from Durango, Mexico.

“It was in Pilsen, La Villita, and Chicago’s Southwest side where I learned the value of community building and fighting to create a more inclusive future for immigrants, working-families, and Brown and Black communities.

“From standing on the picket lines to protect worker rights, to demanding equity in representation, and yes - - ensuring we had a seat at the table, every step the goal was clear: we’ve gotta fight to bring the resources our communities deserve! I proudly stand here knowing that we have continued to deliver much needed federal support.

“I’m delighted to report that we secured $27 million dollars! That’s more than any other Chicago delegation member and more than doubled the amount secured last year!”
