White Sox Chairman Jerry Reinsdorf on Thursday said that his team's internal investigation of an incident that left two women with gunshot wounds inside Guaranteed Rate Field lasts week has found "virtually no possibility that the gunshots came from within the ballpark."
That's a direct contradiction of what interim police Supt. Fred Waller has said regarding where the bullet that caused injuries originated. Shots "coming from outside is something we’ve almost completely dispelled," Waller said.
During an unrelated news conference, Reinsdorf, 87, said he received permission from Waller to tell reporters that "regardless of what has been said" police have yet to officially rule out that shots that injured fans at Saturday's game came from outside the stadium.
"We have done a lot of investigation. We have gathered a lot of facts. … but the fact is, based on the information available to us, I see virtually no possibility that the gunshots came from within the ballpark. It's totally safe to be in this ballpark. I don't think a gun has ever gotten past our security. And I think ultimately that will come out," Reinsdorf said.
Chicago police have not released any additional information about the incident that left a Chicago Public School teacher and another woman who were in the left field bleachers with gunshot wounds
