The number of migrants arriving in Chicago spiked by more than 50% in the last week of September, according to an Oct. 6 report provided to aldermen. There were 3,382 migrants in city staging areas as of Oct. 6, which amounts to more than 1,100 people than the previous week.
So far, according to the report, about 18,000 migrants have arrived in Chicago.
Of those arrivals, 10,220 people — including 3,556 children — are being housed in city shelters.
There are 3,382 migrants being housed at "staging areas" including 2,526 people in police districts, 828 people at O'Hare Airport, and 28 people at Midway Airport, according to the report.
The report states there are 2055 migrant families accounting for 7,281 people making up about 71% of arrivals. About 24% of migrants, 2490 people, are single men. There are 449 single women migrants.
The bulk of migrants who have arrived in Chicago, 7,594 people, reported Venezuela as their home country.

Over the last seven days, 2,910 migrants have arrived from in Chicago via Texas-contracted buses.
Mayor Brandon Johnson's administration informed aldermen that they are not allowed to visit shelters in their wards without informing the mayor's office at least 48 hours in advance. The report also states that news reporters are "not allowed inside a site without approval and coordination" with City Hall.
