Caravan protest in Chicago blocks traffic amid Palestinian-Israeli conflict demonstrations

https://wgntv.com/news/palestinian-americans-allies-rally-in-downtown-chicago-amid-ground-attacks-in-gaza/Over the weekend, a significant protest over the Palestinian-Israeli conflict led to a caravan of cars blocking traffic, causing disruptions on the Gold Coast in Chicago.

The demonstration, involving around ten cars bearing Palestinian flags, resulted in street closures at the intersection of Michigan and Wacker, as reported by Ace Chicago.

The incident was one of many as Chicago's Loop saw thousands of demonstrators protest over the weekend in favor of Palestine.

“Gotta report of a  caravan of 10 cars with Palestinian flags at Michigan and Wacker holding up traffic blocking the street,” Ace Chicago said on X.

In other parts of the protest groups of men were caught on video attacking one another at the intersection of Washington and Michigan, with protesters seen running towards a group in the park.

Some demonstrators used flags as weapons, and there were reports of thrown water bottles and loud sounds.

The protest continued on after the incident as thousands of participants made their way along Michigan Avenue and into the Loop.

The massive protest is the sixth sense the Oct. 7 attack.

The rally urged a ceasefire and drew attention to the more than 7,000 Palestinians killed in Gaza, a large number of them being children.

In the Middle East, Israel has escalated its ground operation against Hamas, entering a new phase of the conflict.

Communication in Gaza has been cut off, making it challenging for the injured to receive assistance. Israel's military expanded its ground activities overnight with a fierce attack on the Gaza Strip, conducting intense operations that included tank movements and airstrikes on Hamas tunnels and bunkers.

As a result, Gaza is now in a communications blackout, with no internet or cell phone service. Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has stated that a ground invasion is forthcoming to eliminate Hamas and rescue hostages, emphasizing that Israel is in a fight for its existence.

Meanwhile, rockets fired from Gaza have caused injuries in Tel Aviv, raising concerns about those trapped under the rubble. The Gaza health ministry has reported a death toll of just over 7,700, with a majority of those killed being women and children. Netanyahu has warned that the war in Gaza is expected to be protracted.
