The Chicago Department of Transportation (CDOT) has announced that repair work on the Division Street Bascule Bridge over the North Branch Chicago River will commence on Tuesday, January 2nd, 2024. The project is expected to last until February 9th, 2024.

During the repair work, there will be two phases of lane closures on the Division Street Bridge. The first phase will take place from January 2nd to January 19th, 2024 and will involve the closure of the eastbound traffic between N. Elston Avenue and N. North Branch Street. However, westbound traffic will still be maintained during this phase.

To accommodate the eastbound traffic, a detour route has been established. Eastbound vehicles will be rerouted via W. Division to N. Elston Ave. to W. North Ave. to N. Clybourn Ave. to N. Halsted St. and back to Division Street.

The second phase of lane closures will occur from January 22nd to February 9th, 2024. This time, the westbound traffic between N. Elston Avenue and N. North Branch Street will be closed, while eastbound traffic will continue to be maintained.

For the westbound traffic, a detour route has been designated. Vehicles will be rerouted via W. Division St. to N. Halsted St. to N. Clybourn Ave. to W. North Ave. to N. Elston Ave. and back to Division Street.

Despite the lane closures, pedestrian access will be maintained throughout the duration of the repair work. At least one sidewalk on the Division Street Bridge will remain open at all times.

The CDOT advises motorists to plan their routes accordingly and allow for extra travel time during the repair period. The lane closures are necessary to ensure the safety and integrity of the Division Street Bridge over the North Branch Chicago River.

In a statement, the CDOT urged drivers to follow the detour routes and exercise caution when traveling through the affected area. They also expressed appreciation for the public's patience and cooperation during the necessary repairs.

The Division Street Bridge is a vital transportation link in Chicago, and the repair work is essential to maintain its functionality and safety. The CDOT is committed to completing the project promptly and minimizing disruptions to traffic as much as possible.
