State Representative Brad Stephens (R-Rosemont) voted in favor of the Chicago Elected School Board legislation in Springfield on March 8, 2024. Following his vote, Rep. Stephens expressed his views on the matter.

“It is important to get this issue out of the hands of the legislators in Springfield and into the hands of the people of each of these districts,” remarked Rep. Stephens. He acknowledged that while the current legislation may not fully meet his expectations of an elected school board from the outset, he sees it as a stepping stone towards that goal.

In addition, Rep. Stephens outlined his plans for future legislative endeavors related to the Chicago Elected School Board. He stated, “I look forward to working with my colleagues on legislation to address some issues such as campaign finance restrictions, the eventual redistricting process, and the responsibilities of drawing a map that represents any population shift that may occur. I will also work on any other issues that may arise during this process.”

Rep. Stephens emphasized his commitment to collaborating with fellow lawmakers to tackle various aspects of the Chicago Elected School Board legislation, indicating a proactive approach towards addressing potential challenges and ensuring the effective implementation of the new system.
