City of Wheaton Fine & Cultural Arts Commission met July 23

Here are the minutes provided by the commission:

I. Call to Order

President Lewis Achenbach called the meeting to order at 6:00 p.m.

II. Roll Call

Those present: Dee Hicks, Lewis Achenbach, Vittoria Clay, Randy King, Lynette Zelis and Sarah Antas.

Absent : Mike Bock. Also present : Katheryn McKee

III. Agenda:

Dee Hicks moved, and Randy King seconded the approval of the agenda. Motion carried.

IV. Approval of Minutes:

Sarah Antas moved, and Vittoria Clay seconded to accept June 17, 2024, minutes. Motion carried.

V. New Business:

Public Art

Randy King met with John Duguay, Assistant City Manager and after a planning committee is established the order of priorities is:

1. Mural design

2. Investigate projection system

3. Consider interaction

VI. Make Music Day

The commission felt that we needed more control of events. Comments made: too much competing sounds between library/library/Hale Street tents, need to use volunteers

need posted schedule

sign up earlier

curate better

manage venues

plan for rain

p.r. program using POP items: buttons/magnets/yard sigs

VII. Old Business

2024 Walking (Biking) Tour. (hold over from last meeting)

We will help the Wheaton Bicyclist and Pedestrian Commission with their project.

We suggest that they limit the Tour North of the tracks and Adams Park

Mural restoration. Dee Hicks will contact the artist and get an estimate for repair.

VIII. Commissioner Comments:

Katheryn McKee complimented committee for sponsoring the Make Music event.

Adjournment: Randy King moved, and Sarah Antas seconded the meeting be adjourned at 6:50.

Motion carried.
