The Chicago Department of Transportation (CDOT) has announced changes to the schedule for the ongoing resurfacing of North DuSable Lake Shore Drive (DLSD) between LaSalle Drive and Hollywood Avenue. Due to inclement weather, work scheduled for Sunday, September 22 has been postponed to Monday, September 23. One southbound lane will remain closed between Irving Park and Diversey.
Upcoming work will require temporary full closures of all lanes where work is being performed beginning the evening of Sunday, September 22. All work is expected to be completed by late October. The traffic impacts are subject to change based on weather conditions.
On Sunday, September 22, starting at 6:00 p.m., all southbound lanes of DLSD will be closed between Fullerton Avenue and LaSalle Drive. This includes closing all entrance and exit ramps between Fullerton Avenue and LaSalle Drive. Southbound vehicles will exit at Fullerton Avenue and detour via Stockton Drive to LaSalle Drive. All lanes will reopen by 6:00 a.m. the following morning.
On Monday, September 23, starting at 7:00 p.m., southbound DLSD will be reduced to one lane between Irving Park Road and LaSalle Drive with all ramps remaining open. At 9:00 p.m., all southbound lanes will close between Irving Park Road and LaSalle Drive, including all entrance and exit ramps in that section. Inner Lake Shore Drive will remain open for detours via Sheridan Road, Cannon Drive, and Stockton Drive. All lanes will reopen by 6:00 a.m.
This pattern continues from Tuesday through Thursday nights with similar schedules: reducing southbound DLSD to one lane at 7:00 p.m., followed by full closure at 9:00 p.m., reopening by 6:00 a.m. each following morning.
Friday's schedule notes that any work requiring full traffic closure on Thursday night will be reopened by Friday morning at 6:00 a.m.
CDOT advises drivers to plan ahead and allow extra time when traveling through these areas. Drivers are urged to pay attention to flaggers and construction signage when entering work zones, obey posted speed limits, and stay alert for workers and equipment.
