City of Prospect Heights Police & Fire Commission met Aug. 28

Here are the minutes provided by the commission:

CALL TO ORDER – At 4:04 PM, Deputy Clerk Austin called to order the Regular Meeting of the Fire Police Commission at City Hall, 8 N Elmhurst Road, Prospect Heights, IL 60070. 

ROLL CALL - Deputy Clerk Austin called roll. A quorum was present. 

At 4:05 PM, having established that a quorum was present, Chairman Hoffman moved to permit Commissioner Riebman to be admitted electronically, seconded by Commissioner Fiorito 

ROLL CALL VOTE: AYES - Hoffman, Fiorito 

NAYS - None 

ABSENT - None 

ABSTAIN – Riebman

Motion carried 2-0, 1 abstention 

COMMISSIONER'S PRESENT - Chairman Hoffman, Commissioner Fiorito, Commissioner Riebman (via phone at 4:05) 

COMMISSIONER'S ABSENT – None 

OTHER OFFCIAIALS PRESENT - Chief Caponigro, Deputy Clerk Austin 

APPROVAL OF MINUTES 

A. Approval of the July 31, 2024 Fire Police Commission Minutes 

Commissioner Fiorito moved to approve the July 31, 2024 Fire Police Commission Minutes as presented; seconded by Commissioner Riebman. There was unanimous approval. 

ROLL CALL VOTE: AYES - Hoffman, Fiorito, Riebman

NAYS - None

ABSENT - None

Motion carried 3 - 0 

CLOSED SESSION – None 

RETURN TO OPEN SESSION - None 

NEW BUSINESS - Chief is happy to say the Police Department is full staff right now for the first time in a while. The rep for this area for the training board came by to congratulate the PD for what a great job they are doing in that area. Chief Caponigro gives an overview of how the training is handled by the city and what goes into it. Commissioner Fiorito asks who has spearheaded the training program and Chief mentions Sargeant Pufundt and Deputy Chief Derman as people who have taken hold of it. 

OLD BUSINESS - Wrapped up last summer outreach program that included going to Brookfield Zoo. Chief wanted to thank Senator Julie Morrison for the work done near River Trails Park and her help in getting the funding to properly light that area. Cameras will be implemented in that same area to hopefully drive down crime. 

DEPARTMENTAL UPDATES/CORRESPONDENCE - None 

PUBLIC COMMENT – None 

Chairman Hoffman made a motion to move the next meeting from September 25 to September 18; seconded by Commissioner Fiorito. 

ROLL CALL VOTE: AYES - Hoffman, Fiorito, Riebman 

NAYS - None 

ABSENT - None 

Motion carried 3 - 0 

The Next Regular Meeting of the Fire Police Commission is scheduled for Wednesday, September 18, 2024 at 4 PM, City Hall, 8 North Elmhurst Road, Prospect Heights, IL 60070. 

ADJOURNMENT – At 4:12 PM, Chairman Hoffman moved to Adjourn; seconded by Commissioner Fiorito. There was unanimous approval.

Motion carried 3-0
