FOIA Request to Cook County Clerk Regarding 2025 Consolidated Elections Candidates on January 14, 2025.
As part of our ongoing commitment to provide comprehensive and accurate news coverage on local governmental affairs, we at Chicago City Wire have submitted a request under the Illinois Freedom of Information Act (5 ILCS 140) to the Cook County Clerk. The request, sent electronically, seeks access to public records detailing the list of candidates running for the upcoming 2025 Consolidated Elections.
Specifically, we are requesting information that includes each candidate's name, the date they filed their candidacy, and the office they are running for. As a media organization involved in gathering and reporting news to the public, access to such public records is crucial for us to fulfill our professional responsibilities. These include holding public institutions accountable and providing transparency to the public.
In line with our role in disseminating information, we believe we are eligible for a fee waiver as a media professional. We eagerly await a response from the Cook County Clerk's office and will continue striving towards ensuring transparency in local government affairs.
