A Winter Weather Advisory has been issued by the National Weather Service in Chicago. The advisory will be in effect from 6 p.m. on Wednesday, February 5 through Thursday, February 6 at 6 a.m., affecting portions of north central and northeast Illinois.

The forecast includes a wintry mix with freezing rain expected to spread across the area starting Wednesday evening and continuing through the night. Temperatures are anticipated to rise above freezing, causing precipitation to erode from south to north overnight. The peak period for icing is predicted between 6 p.m. and midnight on Wednesday into Thursday morning.

Roads, particularly bridges and overpasses, may become slick and hazardous. Motorists are advised to plan for slippery road conditions during the Wednesday evening commute, slow down, and exercise caution while traveling. Current road conditions for Illinois can be checked at gettingaroundillinois.com.

The Office of Emergency Management and Communications (OEMC) will collaborate with the National Weather Service (NWS) to monitor weather conditions continuously and inform the public of any changes.
