Schakowsky, who has been in office since 1999 after replacing Sidney R. Yates, expressed concerns over economic policies and local infrastructure matters.

On February 13, 2025, Schakowsky criticized the administration of President Trump and Elon Musk for their lack of action to reduce costs for working individuals. She highlighted that while "billionaires" are receiving tax cuts, programs like SNAP that support over 40 million Americans are facing potential reductions by the GOP. "Trump and Musk have been in office for three weeks and haven't done a thing to lower costs for working people."

The following day, February 14, Schakowsky alerted residents about a significant water main break in Skokie. She advised residents to boil tap water due to the incident and noted road closures affecting McCormick St., Dempster to Golf Rd., and East Prairie Rd., Church St. to Golf Rd. She also acknowledged the efforts of first responders dealing with the situation. "Please be aware of a major water main break in Skokie."

Later on February 14, Schakowsky shared her collaboration with Representatives Jared Huffman and Jamie Raskin in leading a group of colleagues urging President Trump to support public schools rather than school voucher programs.
