FOIA Request Sent to Illinois Comptroller Regarding Contractual Obligations on February 19, 2025

A Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) request was sent to the Illinois Comptroller's office on February 19, 2025. The request, made by the Chicago City Wire, a media organization committed to comprehensive and accurate news coverage on local governmental affairs, seeks detailed information about the fulfillment of contractual obligations for all contracts executed or modified between state agencies and their vendors during fiscal years 2023 through 2025.

Specifically, we are seeking records that verify the scope of work performed, deliverables completed, and any reports or evaluations related to these contracts. If this request is deemed too broad or burdensome, we have offered to limit it to contracts executed or modified in fiscal year 2025. We also suggested a phased approach if it would facilitate processing.

As members of the media, we are involved in gathering and reporting news to the public. Access to public records is essential for us to fulfill our professional responsibilities, which include holding public institutions accountable and providing transparency to the public. Given our role in disseminating information, we believe we are eligible for a fee waiver as media professionals.

The Chicago City Wire is a member of The Coalition Opposing Governmental Secrecy, a non-profit corporation that assists news media companies and public advocacy groups in investigating state and federal governmental agencies. We leverage Freedom of Information and Sunshine Laws to pull back the curtain on government actions and help inform the American electorate.

We look forward to receiving this important information that will contribute significantly towards promoting transparency in government operations.
