Voters in Illinois are reportedly divided on Governor J.B. Pritzker's performance, according to a recent poll. The survey highlights the contentious issue of tax hikes as a potential solution for closing budget deficits.
Bryce Hill, director of fiscal and economic analysis at the Illinois Policy Institute, criticized the approach of increasing taxes. "Tax hikes are not the right solution to close budget deficits," Hill stated. He further argued that such measures have historically led to "sluggish economic growth, people and businesses leaving the state and fewer jobs and opportunities for workers."
Hill also expressed concerns about the impact of Pritzker's policies on the cost of living in Illinois. "Pritzker’s tenure has resulted in making Illinois an increasingly more expensive place to live," he said. He warned that how Governor Pritzker manages the upcoming budget could significantly affect both the state's future and his public image.
