Chicago Sky signs Arella Guirantes for training camp

The Chicago Sky has signed guard Arella Guirantes to a training camp contract, as announced by the team. The terms of the deal remain undisclosed due to team policy.

Guirantes, standing at 5-11 and hailing from Rutgers, was initially drafted by Los Angeles as the No. 22 overall pick in the 2021 WNBA Draft. During her rookie season with the Sparks, she played in 25 games, starting twice and scoring in 18 of those games. In 2023, she joined Seattle and appeared in nine games with the Storm.

In addition to her WNBA experience, Guirantes represented Puerto Rico at the 2022 FIBA World Cup. There, she averaged impressive stats: 18.2 points, 6.5 rebounds, 3.5 assists, and 1.2 steals per game over six games. She notably recorded a near triple-double against Bosnia and Herzegovina with 26 points, nine rebounds, and eight assists.

Currently playing for Shanghai Swordfish in China alongside Sky center Kamilla Cardoso, Guirantes averages 18.3 points, 5.7 rebounds, and 3.9 assists over an average of 28.6 minutes per game.

Her international career also includes stints with Schio in Italy; CB Avenida in Spain; DVTK Miskolc in Hungary; and BC Budivelnyk in Ukraine.

The Chicago Sky will begin their regular season on May 17 against Indiana Fever at Gainbridge Fieldhouse at noon CT. The team will also play three preseason games: two against Minnesota on May 6 and May 10 and one against the Brazilian National Team at LSU on May 2.
