State Representative Brad Stephens, alongside Representatives Kevin Schmidt, Kyle Moore, and Mike Coffey, has introduced a legislative package titled "Relief for Working Families." The initiative aims to alleviate financial pressures on middle-class families in Illinois.
"Our Relief for Working Families bill package was crafted in order to reduce the financial burdens placed on middle-class Illinoisans who have had to put up with years of economic uncertainty, incessant tax increases, and overspending," said Stephens. "With this bill package, we can provide tangible financial relief for hardworking, taxpaying Illinoisans and begin to reshape our state into a destination not only for families but for students, small businesses, and licensed professionals."
The package includes House Bill 1752 which allows an income tax deduction of up to $5,250 for employers aiding employees with educational expenses. Other components include:
- Deducting state taxes on tips included in federal adjusted gross income (HB1383).
- Doubling the education expense tax credit from $750 to $1,500 (HB3821).
- Eliminating first-year business fees related to new business licensure or registration (HB1351).
- Establishing the ITRADE Grant Program for trade training (HB3807).
- Increasing trade training options through METT teaching licenses (HB1112).
- Awarding income tax credits for contributions to technical education scholarships (HB1729).
