City of Wheaton Liquor Control Commission met Feb. 13

Here are the minutes provided by the commission:

I. CALL TO ORDER AND ROLL CALL VOTE

Chair Pearse called the February 13, 2025 meeting of the Local Liquor Commission to order at 7:00 P.M. in the City Council Chambers of the Wheaton City Hall, 303 West Wesley Street and via Zoom.

Upon roll call, the following were present: Commissioner Brown, Commissioner Laird, Chair Pearse and Commissioner Whitmer. Absent: Commissioner Taylor. City Staff Present: James P. Kozik, Director of Planning and Economic Development.

II. PUBLIC COMMENT

There was no public comment.

III. APPROVAL OF MINUTES – January 9, 2025

Commissioner Brown moved and Commissioner Laird seconded a motion to approve the minutes of the January 9, 2025 Local Liquor Commission meeting as submitted. On a voice vote, all voted aye.

IV. NEW BUSINESS

Application for a Class A Liquor License – Tequila Limon LLC d/b/a Tequila Limon – 230 W. Front Street

Manuel and Isabelle Mayorga, owners of Tequila Limon LLC d/b/a Tequila Limon, along with their interpreter Moses Cruz were in attendance to present an application for a Class A Liquor License (full liquor) for their proposed upscale Mexican steak and seafood restaurant to be located in the former Sushi Mono space at 230 W. Front Street.

Mr. Kozik stated that while the restaurant is to be redecorated, the general floor plan of the proposed restaurant will be largely unchanged from that of the previous restaurant.

Mr. Mayorga stated that he previously owned and operated two restaurants in Aurora, El Campo and Muchacho Alegre which he has since sold to new operators. Mr. Mayorga stated that these two restaurants had liquor licenses and under his ownership, they had no liquor code violations.

When questioned by Commissioner Whitmer about the training of staff, Ms. Mayorga stated that all servers will be BASSET trained and lquor and ID awareness reminders will occur prior to the start of each shift.

Ms. Mayorga stated it will be their policy to card anyone who requests to purchase alcohol. Commissioner Laird questioned the applicant regarding an opening date. Mr. Mayorga stated they hope to open on April 1st.

Hearing no further questions or comments, Commissioner Laird moved and Commissioner Brown seconded a motion to recommend to the Council that a Class A Liquor License be issued to Tequila Limon LLC d/b/a Tequila Limon, 230 W. Front Street. On a roll call vote, all voted aye.

V. ADJOURNMENT

The meeting was adjourned at 7:10 P.M.
