On March 11, 2025, Schakowsky expressed apprehension about potential threats to Social Security and Medicare. She stated: "Republicans are coming for your Social Security and Medicare. Don't believe me? Here's President Musk admitting it." This statement was accompanied by a hashtag urging protection of these programs.
Later that day, Schakowsky commented on a funding bill passed by the House GOP. In her words: "The House GOP just passed a funding bill that gives President Trump and unelected billionaire Elon Musk power to steal from the middle class, seniors, veterans, working people, and small businesses to pay for billionaire tax cuts." She emphasized the detrimental impact she believes this will have on working individuals.
