Two park improvement projects in Chicago are set to receive a total of $12.7 million in Tax Increment Financing (TIF) funding, as proposed by Mayor Brandon Johnson to the City Council. The proposals aim to enhance facilities at Piotrowski Park and Douglass Park.

Piotrowski Park, situated at 4247 W. 31st St. in South Lawndale, is earmarked for an $8 million TIF allocation from the Little Village Industrial Corridor TIF District. This funding will facilitate the construction of a permanent, all-weather enclosure for its outdoor pool and finance ADA improvements to lower-level locker rooms and restrooms. The project is expected to be completed by the end of 2027 with a total cost of $9 million.

Douglass Park, located at 1407 S. Sacramento Drive in North Lawndale, would benefit from a $4.7 million TIF allocation from the Midwest TIF District. The funds will be used to rebuild the lower level of the fieldhouse with modern restrooms, public spaces, and building systems. This project also aims for completion by the end of 2027 and has an estimated total cost of $5.7 million.

The City's TIF program supports public and private investment within designated districts by utilizing new property tax growth within those areas.
