City of Wheaton Environmental Improvement Commission met March 25
Here are the minutes provided by the commission:
I. Call to Order: Chairman Ted Witte called the meeting to order at 7:30.
Present were Jim Boak, Cathy Coleman, Nancy Flynn, Brian Malone, Kay McKeen, Tony Pope, Stephen Siemer, Seema Wadia, Jim Wozniak and Bob Young. Absent were David Popham, Allison Torrence, and Jim Wozniak.
II. Approval of Minutes:
Bob moved that the minutes from the February meeting be approved. Tony seconded. The minutes were approved by unanimous voice vote.
III. Budget Report:
Bob reported that expenditures to date equal $1424, leaving $34,326 open to spend.
IV. Public Comment: NONE
Reports:
1. Electronics Recycling (March 8): Bob reported that it was a beautiful day and cars were steady with a few small back ups. EIC was represented by Bob, Steve, Brian, Jim, and David. Jim from SCARCE and Jim Truesdale were there. They handed out 300 flyers from Kay about upcoming events. A large amount of textiles, metal, bulbs, and cooking oil were collected.
VI. Upcoming Projects:
1. Recycling Extravaganza: (April 12, 2025): Considerable time was dedicated to planning and mapping entrances, layout, and exits and where volunteers were needed. Set up will be Friday, April 11, at 6pm at the DuPage County Fairgrounds. Volunteers should arrive at 7:30 on Saturday, April 12.
2. Arbor Day (April 25, 2025): Whittier School at 9:30.
3. Native Plant Sale (April 26, 2025): Tony reported that set up is Friday the 25 at noon. Sale is Saturday from 8:30-11:30. All sales will be check or charge, no cash.
4. Prairie Path Cleanup (April 26, 2025): Seema reported that she already has 30 people signed up. The table at Steven’s Park will be there for sign in and bag distribution from 8-10.
VII. Unfinished Business:
1. Parkway maintenance and landscape ordinance memos: tabled
2. Recycling investigations for pallets, multi-family food scrap composting, restaurant glass: tabled
3. Adopt a Highway: Nancy set a clean up for Saturday, March 29, at 8a.m. at Chick-fil-A, weather permitting.
VIII. New Business:
1. Funding for EIC Events: Bob moved that we spend up to $100 for lath for signs at the Recycling Extravaganza. Nancy seconded. The motion was approved by unanimous voice vote.
IX. Adjournment:
Cathy moved that the meeting be adjourned. Steve seconded. The meeting was adjourned at 9:00.
The next regular EIC meeting is scheduled for April 22, 2025, at 7:30 P.M.
