Ten neighborhood business projects in Chicago will receive a total of $2 million through Community Development Grants, according to an announcement by Mayor Brandon Johnson.
“These investments speak to the promise of the Housing and Economic Development bond. We promised to use these funds to invest in our communities, to support small businesses, create jobs, and make our communities more vibrant,” Mayor Johnson stated. “We know we cannot rely on the federal government, so we are doing for ourselves here in Chicago. I’m proud of these spring grant awards because they are strategic, targeted investments that are essential for the health and vitality of local commercial corridors.”
The funding will come from proceeds of Mayor Johnson’s Housing and Economic Development bond, totaling around $4.5 million in investments for neighborhoods.
The Department of Planning and Development (DPD) administers these grants and releases funds progressively as project stages are finalized. Current recipients were chosen from 167 applications based on project viability, experience, and neighborhood requirements. Further details can be found on the Community Development Grant website.
