FOIA Request to City of Chicago Regarding Newly Registered Businesses on May 7, 2025.
As part of our ongoing commitment to transparency and accountability in local governmental affairs, we at Chicago City Wire have submitted a Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) request to the City of Chicago. Our request seeks detailed records of businesses registered with the city from the previous week. Specifically, we are asking for information that includes the business name, business number, business type, business address, issued date, status, and registered agent name.
Our aim is to provide comprehensive and accurate news coverage by accessing public records essential for fulfilling our professional responsibilities. This request aligns with our mission to hold public institutions accountable and ensure transparency for the public.
In addition to our role as media professionals, we are supported by The Coalition Opposing Governmental Secrecy—a 501(c)(3) Non-Profit Missouri Corporation dedicated to assisting news media companies and public advocacy groups in investigating state and federal governmental agencies. Through leveraging Freedom of Information and Sunshine Laws, we strive to shed light on government actions and better inform the American electorate.
We believe this request qualifies for a fee waiver due to our status as members of the media involved in gathering and reporting news. We look forward to receiving these records promptly to continue serving our community with vital information.
