Chicago Poet Laureate avery r. young, in collaboration with the Chicago Public Library (CPL), the Chicago Department of Cultural Affairs and Special Events (DCASE), and the Poetry Foundation, has announced a series of free workshops and creative opportunities for residents. The initiative aims to celebrate poetry year-round and is central to young’s multidisciplinary practice as a poet, composer, and educator.

DCASE announces 2024 schedule for beloved Chicago SummerDance series
Mayor Brandon Johnson and the Department of Cultural Affairs and Special Events (DCASE) have unveiled the schedule for Chicago SummerDance 2024. This cherished summer tradition, a cultural gathering held in parks throughout the city and downtown, will run from June 15 to September 8 on select dates. The free outdoor series provides dance and movement lessons for all skill levels, taught by professional instructors, followed by music and social dancing.

Iconic Maxwell Street Market returns to original location for 2024 season
The Chicago Department of Cultural Affairs and Special Events (DCASE) announced today that the iconic Maxwell Street Market will return to its original location on Maxwell Street for the 2024 season. The market, a beloved tradition in Chicago for over a century, will commence operations on Sunday, May 26, with six market days scheduled on the last Sunday of each month through October 27. The only exception is the August date, which has been rescheduled to September 1. Operating hours are from 9 am to 2 pm.
