Artéculture to arrive in West Chicago during annual garden fest

Pop-up installations in varying media will surface May 21 at the West Chicago Cultural Arts Commission’s Artéculture event, now accepting two-dimensional entries, sculpture and crafts for the one-day show planned at 103 West Washington Street.

The exhibit coincides with the City’s annual Blooming Fest, a downtown garden celebration combining plant sales with a car show, crafts, children’s activities and more. A special preview event is slated for Friday, May 20 from 6 to 9 p.m. with refreshments and live music representative of the greater Chicagoland creative spirit.

As a non-juried show, Artéculture can accept work from any artist who submits items with an entry fee of $5 per piece and a 2-item limit per person. The registration money will support an art scholarship for a Community High School senior.

Artéculture allows both amateur and professional artists to commingle and enjoy work generated by the community in the large space offered by the city-owned building, located at the intersection of West Washington and Main Streets.

“The really great thing about Artéculture is the diversity of art that will be included,” said Rosemary Mackey, City of West Chicago staff liaison for the Cultural Arts Commission. “Everyone from emerging artists to professional artists will be represented. Plus, there will be interactive activities to engage people of all ages.”

Aspiring entrants should deliver their work to the building on Thursday, May 19, 2016 from 6 to 9 p.m. and be prepared to retrieve their pieces after the show on Saturday between 3 and 4 p.m. Online submission forms are obtainable at www.westchicago.org/Residents/Forms and Applications/Artéculture and advance registration is preferred.
