Blue Island City Council conducts hearing on establishment of TIF District

Blue Island City Council met Tuesday, Feb. 14.

CALL TO ORDER

The regular meeting of the City Council of the City of Blue Island was called to order by Mayor Vargas at 7:00 p.m. on February 14, 2017.

PUBLIC COMMENT

Rachel Orozco, co-captain of Neighborhood Watch 237, announced the Black History program will be on Friday, February 17. There will be a dinner from 6-7 p.m. followed by a program,

Raeann Zylman, 12057 Artesian, introduced Tom Wogan the new Director of Blue Island Park District.

REPORT OF CITY OFFICIALS

MAYOR

The Mayor recognized the Dwight D. Eisenhower Cardinal Dance Team on winning the National Championship in their Division.

The Mayor recognized Veterans Student Council for all their volunteer hours. They took part in community events including: National Night Out, the Robbins Day parade, BBQ on the Hill, Trunk-or-Treat, 4t ofJuly, Farmer's Market, Blue Island Light Parade, and the Craft Fair.

The Mayor announced that the Sun Times did an article on Josefina Sanchez' life; he encouraged everyone to take a moment to read it.

Motion by Ald. Donahue, second by Ald. Ostling to recess the Regular Meeting to go into the Public Hearing for the proposed TIF 7.

Upon a vote, the Mayor declared the motion carried.

The process was started in October 2016 regarding the proposed TIF District No. 7. The area is roughly bounded by 139 Street on the North, 142"Street on the South, part of Coopers Grove on the West, and California Street on the East. The City complied with all proper notices given before this meeting. No action will be taken in this meeting.

Public Comment:

Quitman Hartzel, 2825 140 Street, asked what benefits this will bring to the homeowners besides a tax increase on their homes.

Motion by Ald. Johanson, second by Ald. Pittman to close the Public Hearing for the - proposed TF 7.

Upon a vote, the Mayor declared the motion carried.

Motion by Ald. Slattery, second by Ald. Pittman to reconvene the Regular Meeting.

Upon a vote, the Mayor declared the motion carried.

Motion by Ald. Slattery, second by Ald. Biotto to approve a request from Lincoln Elementary School to have their 5th annual Walk-A-Thon on Friday, April 28 at 9:15 a. Em. to approximately 10:45 a.m.

ALDERMANIC ANNOUNCEMENTS and COMMENTS

Ald. Donahue thanked the Police Department for catching the people responsible for the home invasions, burglaries, and car breakins that were occurring in eastside neighborhoods. He stated the tactical unit that caught the people responsible was not created exclusively for the thirdward.

Ald. Johanson echoed Ald. Donahue's thanks to the Police Department. He also thanked Public Works and the Fire Department.

Ald. Carr reminded everyone that Black Culture Night will be held at the East Annex on Friday at 6:00 p.m.

Motion by Ald. Pittman, second by Ald. Carr to adjourn the meeting.

Upon a vote, the Mayor declared the motion carried.

The meeting was adjourned at 7:44 p.m.

The next regular meeting of the City Council is scheduled for February 28, 2017 at 7:00 p.m.
