The Cook County Democratic Committee's endorsement of state Sen. Kwame Raoul (D-Chicago) as a candidate for Illinois attorney general drew swift criticism from the Illinois Republican Party, who called Raoul "just another career politician from Chicago" who does House Speaker Michael Madigan's bidding in a recent release.
It's no surprise Cook County Democrats are backing Raoul, given his record for blocking reform, the Illinois Republican Party said in a Nov. 3 release.
Republican Erika Harold so far is the only GOP candidate to announce a run to replace Democrat Attorney General Lisa Madigan, the daughter of House Speaker Michael Madigan (D-Chicago) who has announced she won't seek a fifth term.
Kwame Raoul
Raoul, a 53-year-old Hyde Park-Kenwood resident, announced in September his run for the Democrat nomination for Illinois attorney general. Raoul, a former assistant Cook County prosecutor, has been in the Senate since 2004 when he was appointed to the seat vacated Barack Obama.
