The University of Illinois Cancer Center has been reaccredited by the Commission on Cancer (CoC), signifying adherence to comprehensive, patient-centered standards for cancer care. This three-year accreditation is overseen by the American College of Surgeons.

Anthony Perkins, Director of Cancer Care at UI Health, stated, “UI Health is proud to be a part of this network. This reaccreditation demonstrates our ongoing commitment to providing the highest quality cancer care to our patients.”

This accreditation highlights UI Health's ability to offer a complete range of cancer services, from prevention and early diagnosis to treatment and end-of-life care. UI Health was first accredited by the CoC in 2016.

To secure accreditation, cancer programs must meet 38 standards across nine areas, including patient care and research, as noted by the Commission on Cancer. These programs also undergo evaluation every three years to maintain accreditation.

As a CoC-accredited institution, UI Health contributes data to the National Cancer Database, the largest clinical disease registry. This database is instrumental in tracking cancer care trends.

UI Health’s multidisciplinary cancer care involves coordination among various cancer specialists, enhancing patient care. CoC-accredited facilities diagnose or treat over 70% of new cancer cases, offering state-of-the-art care.

“This reaccreditation ensures our patients have access to best-in-class cancer care options within their community,” Perkins added.
