Pritzger promise to release tax returns growing old, GOP says

Property tax

The clock continues to run on Democratic gubernatorial candidate J.B. Pritzker's promise to release his tax returns, the Illinois Republican Party said in a Nov. 6 release.

The state GOP said in the release it had been 206 days since Pritzker's pledge, but no information related to that has been made available.

“On April 14, J.B. Pritzker pledged to release his tax returns 'soon,'” the news release said. “Now, six months later, we're hearing the same old promises from Pritzker, who continues to stall and hope this goes away. Other Democrats have already challenged Pritzker on his obfuscation, and Illinois voters are demanding to see what Pritzker is hiding.”

The news release also cited a Sun-Times report that Pritzker received about $230,000 in breaks on property taxes for a historic mansion on Chicago's Gold Coast that he purchased. The home's value was cut by more than $5 million after Pritzker's lawyers filed documents claiming the house was in a state of disrepair and was uninhabitable, with the documents filed in Cook County Assessor Joseph Berrios's office. The Pritzker family bought the historic mansion for $3.7 million.

“We already know that he has gamed the system through fellow (House Speaker Michael) Madigan crony Joe Berrios so he could receive a $230,000 tax break on his Gold Coast Chicago mansion,” the GOP release said. “What else might Pritzker be hiding? If you ask Pritzker, we'll find out 'soon.'”
