Complaints by Arena staff violate police officers' rights, police group says

Foia

The Chicago Fraternal Order of Police (FOP) believes complaints made by 45th Ward Alderman John Arena staff against Chicago Police Department members who are opposing a building project violate the civil rights of the members.

Arena staff filed complaint register numbers against CPD members for making “racially charged comments” on social media that oppose a project at 5150 N. Northwest Highway, an FOP press release said.

“This is very troubling,” FOP attorney Tim Grace said in the release. “By opposing a building project off duty on your own time in your own neighborhood, you are being racist? You are then accused of misconduct at your job? This is ridiculous.”

The FOP said the complaints are baseless and politically motivated, and the group has filed a Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) request with the City of Chicago.
