More than 119,000 Cook County residents prepaid their property taxes for 2018, according to a Blockshopper.com analysis of local data.

Trump’s tax reform lowered individual tax rates, but also capped the amount of property taxes those in high-property tax states like Illinois could write off at $10,000.

As a result, a record number of Cook County homeowners paid their bills early, allowing them to keep the write-off for one more year.

Nearly 50,000 homeowners in Chicago, including 5,200 with tax bills that exceed the new cap, prepaid. More than 4,000 homeowners in Arlington Heights and Glenview also paid their taxes early.

In Winnetka, where 2,118 homeowners prepaid taxes, 1,418 have property tax bills over $10,000; and in Wilmette, 3,294 homeowners prepaid, including 1,194 with tax bills over $10,000.
