Resolution honors former Chicago Bears player Urlacher

Springfield

As if his election into the Pro Football Hall of Fame wasn’t enough, former Chicago Bears star Brian Urlacher has become even more legendary in Illinois.

Rep. Michael McAuliffe (R-Chicago) introduced a resolution to honor Urlacher in Illinois. The resolution was officially passed on Feb. 13 by the 100th General Assembly and salutes Urlacher for his hard work, positive impact and overall accomplishments, according to a press release on McAuliffe's website.

The 39-year-old Urlacher played 12 seasons with the Bears and was tabbed for the Hall of Fame in his first year of eligibility.

Urlacher holds the team record for most career tackles at 1,353 and was Defensive Rookie of the Year in 2000 when he registered a team rookie record of 124 tackles and eight sacks, the release said.

Nearly as popular as he was effective, Urlacher was also voted to eight Pro Bowls and received numerous other accolades, including the Ed Block Courage Award for sportsmanship and courage on and off the field.

Urlacher is just the 28th Chicago Bear to enter the Hall of Fame, the release said.

Copies of the state resolution will be formally presented to him and the Chicago Bears.
