Chicago CityMayor's Office issued the following announcement on May 17.
“More than three decades ago, a young Barack Obama came to Chicago to take the first steps on a path that would truly bend the arc of history. Today, Chicago took a giant step forward towards creating a living testament to the Obama legacy, in the same South Side community where Barack and Michelle Obama started their own journeys. The Obama Presidential Center will not just create jobs, but create future leaders, and be an incredible economic, educational and cultural benefit to our great city. We are looking forward to next week’s City Council vote and the future of the Obama Presidential Center in Chicago.”
