IL State Chamber of Commerce issued the following announcement on May 30.
“The Illinois Chamber of Commerce commends lawmakers for the passage of Senate Bill 20, which can now head to the governor’s desk for further consideration. This bill helps streamline government and business efficiency by making both procedural changes to the Illinois Human Rights Act and structural changes to the Illinois Human Rights Commission.
We believe the result of the bill will be a marked reduction in a large backlog of cases yet to be heard.Decreasing the size of the commission from 13 part-time to seven full-time members maximizes proficiency and is one of many improvements in the bill that is a logical solution for better business, and moreover, successful public service.
By working together with state agencies, like on this bill, on sound public policy to maximize effectiveness, we are sending a positive message to employers and all of Illinois benefits. We respectfully thank all of the sponsors and legislators who worked on this bill ensuring its success.”
