Cost of college went up for all students at School of the Art Institute of Chicago

Tuition and fees rose 8.4 percent for 2017-18 at School of the Art Institute of Chicago, according to the latest disclosure from the U.S. Department of Education.

Illinois students paid $49,610 to attend the four-year private not-for-profit institution this year $3,860 more than the $45,750 charged for 2016-17.

Data shows 85 percent of full-time undergraduates who started school in 2015-16 received student financial aid in some form. In all, 484 students received grants or scholarships totaling $8.08 million and 230 students took out student loans totaling more than $2.21 million.

Including all undergraduates, 2,571 students used grants or scholarships totaling $34.43 million. Another 1,124 took out $9.25 million in federal student loans.
