Cost of college went up for all students at University of Chicago

Tuition and fees rose 4.4 percent for 2017-18 at University of Chicago, according to the latest disclosure from the U.S. Department of Education.

Illinois students paid $56,034 to attend the four-year private not-for-profit institution this year $2,385 more than the $53,649 charged for 2016-17.

Data shows 67 percent of full-time undergraduates who started school in 2015-16 received student financial aid in some form. In all, 980 students received grants or scholarships totaling $38.25 million and 128 students took out student loans totaling more than $1.4 million.

Including all undergraduates, 3,752 students used grants or scholarships totaling $130.1 million. Another 1,101 took out $6.65 million in federal student loans.
