Protestors expected at tonight's 6th Congressional District candidate debate
Emotions are expected to be running high Thursday evening during the 6th Congressional District candidate debate between U.S. Rep. Peter Roskam (R-Arlington Heights) and Democratic challenger Sean Casten.
The Union League Club of Chicago sent out a press release earlier in the day alerting those who plan to be on hand for the debate that “due to the contentious nature of this race, we have learned that a large group of protesters may assemble outside of the Club.”
Organizers added “while we have appropriate security in place, we want to alert you to tonight’s event and the likely demonstrations outside.”
Protest organizers from such groups as Indivisible DuPage, Indivisible Chicago, Coalition for a Better Illinois 6th and Planned Parenthood Illinois Action are said to be calling for a “civil, peaceful demonstration” that is expected to draw up to 1,000 protesters.
