Ammie Kessem, a Republican candidate in the 19th District race for the Illinois House, criticized her opponent’s endorsement of Toni Preckwinkle, describing the mayoral candidate as the "Soda Tax Queen."
“Tax-Man Rob Martwick already endorsed Soda Tax Queen Preckwinkle for mayor,” Kessem wrote in a Sept. 20 Facebook post. “Their only solution to problems is to raise taxes.”
Kessem described Martwick and Preckwinkle as "two peas in a pod."

In his endorsement, state Rep. Robert Martwick (D-Chicago), a three-term incumbent, called Preckwinkle “a leader who has shown the courage to make the tough decision, even if it is politically unpopular.”
Kessem is challenging Martwick on Nov. 6.
“Vote for me and I will cut wasteful spending with a vengeance and force it to happen by lowering and capping property taxes to 1 percent of home value,” she said.
Kessem, a sergeant on the Chicago Police force and union member, is running on a platform that supports union members, homeowners and taxpayers, according to her website.
